Your Highland Lochs & Whisky Private Tour departs from Edinburgh at 8:30 am. Your guide will greet you at your accommodation. Once aboard, you will be able to get acquainted and they will take you through the route, the sights, and the activities for the day.
Departing Edinburgh via the scenic route, we head north crossing the Firth of Forth. We will take in the sights of the Three Bridges, including the world famous Forth Bridge. We will make our way through the Kingdom of Fife and into Lowland Perthshire.
Full of beautiful lush farmland and intriguing history, we make our way onward into Highland Perthshire where the landscape changes from lush lowland agriculture to more dramatic forested upland.
Our first port of call is in the historic cathedral town of Dunkeld. Here we will take the opportunity for some rest and refreshments, and you have the option of visiting the cathedral. Dating from 1260, the bones of St Columba where said to be kept here until the Reformation before they were removed to Ireland. In 1689, the Battle of Dunkeld was fought around the cathedral between the Jacobite Highlanders and the government forces of William of Orange. A truly fascinating place.
From there, we head for a stroll in the forest to a place known as The Hermitage. Walking under the tallest trees in Britain, enormous Douglas firs, we make our way toward a stunning waterfall - the Black Linn Falls. Here is where legendary Ossian is said to have written poetry in Ossian's Hall, a viewpoint above the falls. Salmon can often be seen leaping up the falls and it is a truly magical place.
We will then head for the beautiful highland town of Pitlochry. With a backdrop of surrounding hills and beautiful woodlands, the town is a real gem. We will take an extended lunch break here. You will have plenty of time to refuel over a meal and explore the town's sights.
After lunch, we take one of the most scenic roads in Scotland through incredible pine forest. We stop at various points of interest, including at the Queen's View over Loch Tummel and Shiehallion, the faerie mountain. We will also stop at the head of Loch Tay in Kenmore for more stunning scenery.
The road will take us to the picturesque highland town of Aberfeldy. There are many great distilleries near Edinburgh, but here you will visit one of the best distilleries in Scotland - Dewar's Aberfeldy. The distillery is incredibly beautiful, historic, and boasts one of the best whisky experiences in Scotland. Here you will be treated to a tour & tasting.
After you have sampled some whiskey and seen the process of distillation, we head south again making for Edinburgh. We pass through more incredible scenery with lots of time for more tales and laughter.
Back in Edinburgh we will drop you at your accommodation or elsewhere if you prefer.
We do not say farewell - rather, haste ye back!
