Departing Edinburgh on your Highlands Lochs, Glens & Castles tour, we head west and make for the Highlands. We have a choice of stops en route. We can visit the stunning Three Bridges on the Firth of Forth. Or, we can make a stop at the Kelpies Statues in Falkirk. There are options throughout the tour and we will simply stop depending on your preference.
From there, we make for the first of our Scottish Castles - the historic Doune Castle. There are many castles in the Scottish Highlands and Doune is one of our most impressive. It has been the site of many film and TV locations. Built in the 13th Century, the medieval stronghold was damaged in the Wars of Independence. It was rebuilt for Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany who was Regent of Scotland from 1388 until his death. The castle featured as Castle Anthrax in Monty Python, as Winterfell in the pilot episode of Game of Thrones. Most recently, it served as Castle Lioch, Seat of Clan MacKenzie in Outlander.
After you have visited the castle, we continue through the Trossachs National Park. We will stop at the first of our Scottish Lochs, Loch Lubnaig. Here there are restrooms, refreshments, and incredible views over the loch and surrounding mountains.
Your tour will then take you through many picturesque glens and past many more beautiful lochs. You will hear their incredible stories and learn more about the ancient lore surrounding them. We will then stop at Kilchurn Castle, one of the best castles in scotland situated at the easterly tail of Loch Awe, An incredible ruin, depending on the weather we are able to take a short walk out to the narrow headland on which it sits. The view is awesome of the loch and surrounding mountains - Ben Cruachan and Ben More.
From there, we head for the quaint highland fishing town of Inverary. Inverary is world famous for it's seafood derived from the waters of Loch Fyne. You may sample some of this produce yourself. The town will serve as our extended lunch stop. From April - October, one may also visit incredible Inverary Castle, home of the Duke of Argyll.
After lunch, our route takes you through more incredible scenery. We make our way up to the viewpoint known as the Rest & Be Thankful. Here we will stop and admire one of the best views in Scotland down into Glen Croe.
Then, we will head for the westerly shores of famous Loch Lomond. We will be making our stop in the picturesque garden village of Luss. Here, you may walk along the bonnie banks of Scotland's most famous loch. There also great options for rest & refreshments.
From Luss we are homeward-bound toward Edinburgh via the scenic route. Once again, we can stop at your leisure along the way.
Back in Edinburgh we will drop you at your accommodation or elsewhere if you prefer.
We do not say farewell - rather, haste ye back!
