Trossachs National Park
Lochside town of Balmaha
Duke's Pass Scenic Route
Three Bridges on the Firth of Forth
Departing Edinburgh, we make for the Highlands and make our first stop of the day at the Kelpies Statues in Falkirk. Falkirk is the old industrial heartland of Scotland and was home to our heavy coal and steel industries. Scotland has moved on economically since then - the Kelpies are the main feature of a greater eco-park with the aim of "greenifying" the area and creating a beautiful space which the locals and visitors alike can enjoy. You will be bale to walk right down beneath the Kelpies and there is also a visitor centre with cafe for rest and refreshments.
From there, we head further west into Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, home to Scotland's largest loch. We will take in the beautiful scenery and make stops at your leisure, and make an extended stop in Balmaha. The small village sits right on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond itself and is a base from which you can grab a delicious Scottish lunch in the pub and explore the bonnie banks for yourself.
We then take the road over the Duke's Pass, a high-altitude scenic route with spectacular views of the Trossachs and many stunning lochs, built by the Duke of Montrose in 1885.
The road will take us onward to Stirling Caste - the Key to Scotland - named so due to it's geographically fortuitous position. Not only a foreboding fortress, inside the caste grounds lies an incredible Renaissance Palace showcasing much of the regal history of the site. Several Scottish kings and queens have been crowned here including Mary Queen of Scots in 1542 and the castle was also under siege by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746. You will have plenty of time to explore the Castle, Palace, and the spectacular gardens at your leisure before making the short journey back to Edinburgh for early evening.
Back in Edinburgh we will drop you at your accommodation or elsewhere if you prefer.
We do not say farewell - rather, haste ye back!
